Beginning today, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are implementing an emergency fee for shipping containers that aren’t moved quickly. A record number of container ships are waiting at anchor to load and unload which is adding to the congestion at the port. On the first day past the allowed period, a fee of $100 per container will be assessed. That goes to $200 on the second day, $300 on the third day, etc.
