The basis remains unusually strong during this harvest season. “These processors, especially when you look at the margins they have in ethanol with fuel costs the way they are, they’re going to be looking for a regular supply,” said Sam Hudson, market analyst, Cornbelt Marketing. “Once farmers wrap up harvest and have grain in the bin, look for those opportunities in November and December.” The Money Farm market analyst Allison Thompson also sees strong basis at ethanol plants. “If you’re looking for cash flow this fall, I highly recommend taking advantage. We don’t normally see this, so don’t let an opportunity pass you by if you find something that works for you.”
