Tight supplies and the runup in durum prices have pasta suppliers nervous. North Dakota Wheat Commission Policy and Marketing Director Jim Peterson participated in the National Pasta Association Annual Meeting and these issues were front-and-center. “For some of them, depending on their location, sheer availability could be an issue after we get past the first of the year.” Peterson sees opportunity for spring wheat and durum in the acreage battle for 2022. “In visiting with producers about their soil testing, that is one of the positives. We seem to have pretty good residual nitrogen levels which will hopefully lesson the fertilizer bill somewhat.”
