As farmers think about 2022 acreage decisions, Innovus Agra president and farm business consultant Bret Oelke says the Dakotas and Minnesota have an advantage over other states in the Corn Belt with more flex acre options. “We can flex out of corn into soybeans; we can flex into spring wheat. We can flex into other crops so we have a lot more flexibility than other areas,” Oelke tells RRFN. “There’s going to be many decisions determined by next spring’s crop insurance price. Are we still in a drought cycle?” Oelke encourages farmers to not get overly aggressive with their next year sales without having a better understanding of the input costs.
