Agricultural Retailers Association President and CEO Daren Coppock says the supply chain backups impacting agriculture are a multidimensional problem. “There are issues with things like containers being shipped empty back to China out of west coast ports that should be carrying exports. We have issues with our domestic infrastructure, a lack of available drivers, there’s so much piling on that makes this logistics situation difficult.” Farmers will need to plan ahead for next year and talk with their local retailers about chemical and fertilizer needs. “I heard indirectly from one ARA member they’re not going to be able to get product to every farmer in the form they want it when they want it. That will be difficult for farmers that have infrastructure dedicated to liquid fertilizer, ammonia or to dry if the only available product is in a different format.”
