American Crystal Sugar Company is expecting to start their full sugarbeet harvest campaign on Sunday. Based in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Senior Agriculturalist Bob Joerger says the full campaign would start in the evening. “We have to get the root temperatures below 55 degrees and then, looking at the forecast, there’s a model we stick to based on our past research and experiences. In the meantime, pre-pile harvest continues with individual piling sites open. “This keeps the factory going. We don’t ever want to stop the factory. In this transition, different areas will be harvesting. We’ll split that up.” Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative and Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative are also saying full harvest will be postponed until Sunday or Monday.
