USDA will now start its work on implementing the $10 billion in disaster aid available for farmers and ranchers. North Dakota Senator John Hoeven hopes the WHIP+ program sign-up can be rolled out quickly. “I’m also hoping payments will move faster this time than the last program. Last time, we had to distribute WHIP+ payments in two pieces. It likely all depends on need, but we have significant dollars to work with this time.” The disaster aid for livestock producers could take more time to develop. Hoeven plans to hold a roundtable discussion in North Dakota the week of October 11 with local agriculture groups to discuss. “We have $750 million to help, but there’s not a prescribed formula for this yet.”
