The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources is seeking public comments on the Riparian Buffer Initiative. This initiative is designed to improve water quality and conservation in South Dakota. Farmers who enroll in the initiative get a tax break if they buffer existing pastureland or revegetate cropland. Over the summer, small scale enrollment started in the Big Sioux River. Now, the DANR is preparing to open RBI enrollment for other areas of the state. Comments are being taken via e-mail to the ag department and must be received by Friday, October 29.
