In the 21 major dairy states, August milk production increased 1.1 percent from one year ago. South Dakota had the biggest increase in production, up more than 16 percent. That was helped by a 22,000 head increase in the size of the state’s cow herd. Minnesota milk production rose 2.3 percent.
