According to NRCS Conservationist Jon Quast, who is based at Breckenridge, Minnesota, one of the most important tools on the farm is the spade. “How many times do you actually go out into your field and open up the soil to see what is underneath?” asked Quast. At this past week’s Ag Equipment Showcase near Crookston, a soil pit allowed growers to see what is happening under the ground. “It shows compaction, the different varieties of soil and how they help us get a healthy crop.” Quast emphasized local NRCS and and SWCD offices are available to assist farmers as they focus on soil health.
