Infrastructure discussions continue in the final week of July. The Russell Group President Randy Russell says there is a need for infrastructure improvements, but how to pay for them remains a hang-up in negotiations. “I think lawmakers will get through that and move to debate on the bill, maybe before the August recess.” Russell does not believe the pay-fors on the current $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package will have a major impact on agriculture. “The focus for this bill includes ports, waterways, roads and bridges. However, the second package, the reconciliation package with human infrastructure at $3.5 trillion, I think we should pay very close attention to this. Some of those pay-fors could have a substantial impact on agriculture.”
