USDA’s Economic Research Service is estimating U.S. farmers received nearly $58 billion in federal assistance this past year. From that total, more than 60 percent came from the various COVID-19 relief programs. USDA is forecasting net farm income to decline eight percent this year. That’s due, in part, by a 45 percent reduction in direct government payments.
