The Federal Trade Commission is taking steps to improve its ability to enforce the ‘Made in the USA’ standard. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack praised the move, saying USDA would take “a top to bottom” review of the ‘Product of the USA’ label. Accurate, transparent labeling is the goal. The current label does not guarantee source certification or is tied to any food safety standard. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Jerry Bohn applauded the move, saying said the current ‘Product of the USA’ label is misleading.
