North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Executive Vice-President Julie Ellingson attended the meeting with USDA officials in Mandan Wednesday. “Of course, what North Dakota livestock producers need the most is rain and that doesn’t happen with a policy change, but we’ve asked for flexibilities on policies to give us more tools. This includes adding cover crops to failed acres as a feed source and reiterating a request for earlier CRP haying.” Ellingson says livestock producers would also like to see tweaks made to the Livestock Forage Program. “Minor language revisions are needed to better reflect beef operation contacts. This will alleviate some of the problems.”
