The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of oil refiners seeking waivers from the Renewable Fuels Standard. The ruling allows the EPA to extend small refinery waivers to any refinery “at any time,” opening up the number of refineries eligible for the exemption. A coalition of farm groups that challenged small refinery exemptions in the Supreme Court earlier this year is extremely disappointed with the ruling. The National Farmers Union, National Corn Growers Association and others are part of that coalition. As of Friday, 70 small refinery exemption petitions are pending at the EPA for compliance years of 2011 through 2020.
