The U.S. biofuels industry will be getting $700 million from the USDA for COVID-19 relief. The agency plans to implement this COVID relief within the next 60 days, but other than that, biofuel groups did not know more details last week. Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says there’s been numerous conversations with the USDA leading up to the announcement. “We are certainly pleased the USDA would announce this long-awaited assistance to producers, who were some of the hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.” How far can $700 million go? “It will help,” says Skor. “If you recall, during the worst of the pandemic in 2020, more than half of the industry was offline. I still have members who haven’t come back online or are operating at reduced production rates.”
