John Hoffman, who is with the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Food Protection and Defense Institute, said digital systems are embedded into nearly every aspect of food production and safety. This dependence puts the U.S. food system at “enormous risk.” Hoffman said that risk can be reduced by monitoring for any anomalies and properly training employees. Educating the government and law enforcement about specific cyber security issues in the food and agriculture sector is also recommended.
