South Dakota Senator John Thune went to the Senate floor Wednesday to discuss the ransomware attack on JBS. Thune said the JBS hack resulted in a temporary shutdown. Thune said that ongoing possibility creates a serious problem for farmers, ranchers and the meat supply. “The highly concentrated nature of the meatpacking industry also creates an opportunity for market manipulation with the ongoing gulf between meatpacker profits and rancher profits.” Thune emphasized the need for an oversight hearing to discuss possible antitrust violations in the meatpacking industry.
