South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson is urging USDA and the Justice Department to appeal a recent federal court ruling that will reduce line speeds at pork processing plants. Minnesota Congressman Jim Hagedorn and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley are also behind this request to the Biden Administration. The change in regulations is expected to take effect at the end of the month. An Iowa State University study found the reduction in line speeds will cut pork packing plant capacity by 2.5 percent and have an $80 million impact on small hog farmers.
