With tight corn and soybean supplies, AgResource Company Chief Grains and Dairy Analyst Ben Buckner says dairy producers will want to cover their feed needs for the balance of the year or longer. “With corn, dairy operations will need to compete increasingly with ethanol plants and export terminals.” Buckner says the corn, soybean and wheat markets are all driven by weather. “There’s no room for error with hay acres at the lowest level since 1908 and pasture conditions in the western U.S. are in decline,” said Buckner. “It will take nearly perfect Midwest weather if this supply issue is going to be solved this year.”
