A U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement dispute settlement has been initiated by the U.S. Trade Representative. Canada refuses to change how it handles dairy market access under USMCA. U.S. Dairy Export Council President and CEO Krysta Harden said the U.S. dairy industry is grateful USTR is taking this first step. “Every single pound of product that leaves our country represents additional income for dairy farmers, manufacturers and it provides jobs,” said Harden. “I think this is also a signal demonstrating to all of our trading partners the willingness of the administration to enforce procedures in agreement.” This begins an advanced process that’s expedited for perishable products. “There will be reviews, panels to provide oversight and we could have a decision by the end of the year. This gives members a lot of hope we could get a solution in 2021.”
