House Republicans have introduced legislation to deliver broadband to Rural America. Ranking Member G.T. Thompson said Congress has been slow to bridge the digital divide. “If we would have had that same pace back in the 1930s when it came to electrifying Rural America, I’m afraid my home town would still be in the dark.” The lawmakers said the pandemic has shown inconsistent internet service puts farmers and rural communities at competitive disadvantage.
