Grain barge movement hit a record-high 14.5 million tons during the week ending May 8, according to USDA’s Grain Transportation Report. That’s 47 percent higher than last year and 38 percent more than the ten-year average. Corn moved by barge down river is also a record high 10.4 million tons, 98 percent more than last year and 77 percent higher than the 10-year average.
