The Minnesota Conference Committee on Omnibus Ag and Broadband Finance is meeting again this week. On Monday, two policy provisions were adopted, but the committee still doesn’t have a budget target. Minnesota Senate Ag Committee Chairman Torrey Westrom does not know when this will be announced and there’s less than one week left in the scheduled session. “Senate Republicans want to come up with an agreement, balance our budget and not raise taxes. We want to use the current budget surplus and federal money. We also want the governor to drop his emergency powers. We are going on 15 months of emergency powers. All of those things play into the budget targets.” Governor Walz said last week he doesn’t plan to give up those emergency powers yet. In response, Westrom said the emergency of today isn’t the emergency of 2020.
