Minnesota lawmakers missed their Friday deadline to reach an agreement on global budget targets. Division remains between Republicans and Democrats on issues like tax increases. It is unclear at this time the exact path forward for the omnibus agriculture finance bill. It is possible for lawmakers to not reach an agreement on global budget targets, but agree on a number for the smaller, bipartisan agriculture finance bill. If Minnesota’s leadership does not reach an agreement on the overall state budget by next Monday, May 17, state lawmakers will need to finish up their work in an overtime special session. A government shutdown is also possible.
