Home of Economy is recognized by many retailers as the first discount store. Free-trade laws required retailers to sell at high, fixed prices and only fleet operators with multiple vehicles could receive discounts. “My grandfather’s (Bob Kiesau) innovation was to consider farmers as a fleet,” said Scott Pearson, CEO. “You’ve got a tractor, a truck and maybe a personal car; using farm equipment as vehicles he was able to get around the price control rules of the time and offer discounts to farmers.” Home of Economy began in 1939 in Thief River Falls and operates eight stores across North Dakota today. Home of Economy hosted the grand opening at its new location in Rugby, North Dakota Saturday. Listen to the entire interview with Pearson.
