The Gulke Group President Jerry Gulke thinks North Dakota may be instrumental in boosting U.S. corn and soybean acres this spring. “I think there are corn acres already committed in North Dakota, because crop insurance is so good for corn. We’ll see how that pans out,” says Gulke. “In some cases, clients have told us even in a crop disaster they’ll make more money in crop insurance than they would otherwise. That’s become a strange incentive. Now, we’re relying on insurance to make a profit and it will this year, because of the high February rate.”
