USDA is extending its deregulation to the Snowden Z6 potato. The J.R. Simplot potato variety is genetically engineered for late blight protection and reduced bruising. USDA previously reviewed and deregulated another Simplot biotech variety called Innate. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service determined the new variety is unlikely to pose any plant risk and extended Simplot’s deregulation for Innate to the Snowden Z6 variety.
