Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow, Indiana Senator Mike Braun and others reintroduced the Growing Climate Solutions Act. This bill highlights ways farmers can participate in voluntary carbon markets. “Producers can go to the USDA website for comprehensive information on how they can generate and sell carbon credits,” said Stabenow. “The bill establishes a USDA certification for the trusted experts farmers need to work with to generate and sell carbon credits.” This is an updated version of a bill introduced last year; one change is the required farmer input. “There will be an advisory committee of farmers and ranchers. We’ve also added accountability measurement and funding to get things started.” The bill passed out of committee on Thursday. “We are moving this quickly so we are available for floor action.”
