The Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program or TEFAP will replace the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box program. In Wednesday’s House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture hearing, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said TEFAP will be more efficient and there were disparities in administrative costs with the old program. In response to the news, American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall said he was surprised, because the need is there, but the National Milk Producers Federation President and CEO Jim Mulhern said he was not surprised, because of the challenges of the program. The USDA also said earlier this week it will implement a Dairy Donation Program to facilitate the donation of dairy products to nonprofit organizations.
