American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says domestic ethanol demand is starting to pick up as more people are driving. “There are many reasons to be optimistic, but we are cautious as we work our way out of the plant shutdowns.” Weekly ethanol production was up last week to the highest weekly production since February 2020, but getting both demand and production back to pre-pandemic levels will take time. Jennings says a full recovery may not happen until 2022. In the meantime, the ethanol industry is focusing on exports and working with USDA on COVID relief. “The USDA is still working through how they want to design the program. There will likely be an expedited rule-making process.”
