An infrastructure package is next on the priority list in Washington D.C. On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Democrats to start working with Republicans on the matter. Minnesota Senator Tina Smith says an infrastructure package is long overdue, but this could get expensive. “We need to improve crumbling roads and bridges and to expand rural broadband. We also need to make sure our water systems are improved and are thinking about public buildings that need to be retrofitted so they’re more energy efficient,” says Smith. “This is an important next step for us and moving forward, but we’ll need to figure out how to pay for it.” Agriculture fits into the infrastructure discussion many ways, including renewable fuels. “The importance of advanced biofuels and ethanol is absolutely central.”
