On Saturday, the U.S. Senate passed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan on a party-line vote. No Republicans voted for the bill. This latest round of COVID relief includes $1,400 in direct payments to Americans and more funding to states. The bill also allocates $4 billion to address disruptions in the food supply chain, $5 billion in debt relief for farmers of color and would reimburse rural hospitals for COVID-19 related expenses. Due to revisions in the Senate, the House will consider the bill again. The House is expected to vote on the bill on Tuesday and if it passes, President Biden is expected to sign the bill.
