The National Pork Producers Council established key short-term policy priorities during the National Pork Industry Forum. The newly elected president, Jen Sorenson, says worker safety is especially important in COVID. “Meatpacking facilities alone have invested $1.5 billion to ensure worker safety. We must be careful to not unnecessarily disrupt the food supply chain with mandates designed to achieve worker safety outcomes already achieved.” Pork producers will also try to secure compensation for growers who euthanized hogs during the peak of the pandemic. Aside from the COVID pandemic, ag labor, disease preparedness and prevention and trade issues remain top-of-mind for U.S. pork producers.
