As the Biden Administration and Congress consider climate change policies, National Association of Wheat Growers CEO Chandler Goule says the farm programs should begin as a voluntary effort. “We would never want to start any program being mandatory; ARC is not mandatory, PLC is not mandatory and crop insurance is not mandatory.” Goule prefers a phased-in, voluntary approach to give farmers time to assess the benefits and risks of a carbon-based program. NAWG is appointing a special committee to consider climate change and sustainability.
