Milk production in the 24 major dairy states totaled more than 18 billion pounds in January. That’s up 1.8 percent from one year ago. South Dakota was one of the states seeing the biggest increase in production, up ten percent. Minnesota milk production rose nearly six percent. South Dakota added 13,000 cows to its state herd in the past year. In Minnesota, cow numbers increased by 12,000 head.
