The North Dakota House Appropriations Committee has passed an amendment to study the North Dakota Beef Commission including its operations and the selection of commission members. Earlier in the session, there was a deep divide in the testimony about the beef checkoff. “We need to get this fixed so they can end the infighting,” said Representative Mike Brandenburg. “They need to do elections, that’s exactly what needs to happen.” Currently, commission members are appointed by the governor from names submitted by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association, the NDSA Feeder Council, the Milk Producers of North Dakota and the North Dakota Livestock Marketing Association.
