South Dakota Senator John Thune was the final Senate Agriculture Committee member to ask questions during Tuesday’s hearing for Ag Secretary Nominee Tom Vilsack. Thune asked about cattle market investigations. “We are going to look at every vehicle we have at USDA to make sure we have open, fair and transparent markets,” said Vilsack. “There needs to be appropriate price discovery along with data and economic analysis that allows us to determine whether or not there’s a problem. If there is, we need to use tools to try and provide greater competition and fairness.”
