U.S. corn is in demand and China purchased large quantities the last week of January. NDSU Extension Crops Marketing Economist Frayne Olson said the current demand numbers are more aggressive than expected. “China bought the same amount of corn the last week of January as they did in the previous record year. There are questions now if those shipments will be delivered. In my opinion, I think the vast majority will be delivered. I don’t think we’ll see many cancellations, especially for corn.” Olson is eager to see what corn ending stocks look like in the February USDA report. “The total export commitments from the last WASDE report don’t reflect the strong demand from China.”
