President Biden’s executive order banning travel from South Africa is causing a headache for U.S. Custom Harvesters Incorporated. Board member Ryan Haffner says it would be devastating for custom harvesters if workers are not allowed into the U.S. “In worst case scenarios it stayed in effect and if South African workers weren’t able to get in to help during the farming season, it would be devastating to agriculture production. There’s a lot of workers that come in from South Africa. It would be a major setback.” All of agriculture is seeking a remedy. “We’re contacting Congress and pooling numbers in our association to see how many workers are involved in the custom harvesting industry. We hope they can come through as essential workers.”
