South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem hosted a call with state agriculture groups last week to discuss the merging of the state’s agriculture and environment departments. According to the Mitchell Republic, Noem said the merger would ensure someone with ag experience is involved in regulation concerning agriculture and save money. Five positions and a secretary position would be eliminated. The Republic said most groups on the call expressed support on the governor’s move in theory, but they also heard concerns.
