Dry conditions continue to be a worry for the regional potato industry. “I’d like to see some moisture come through to increase our subsoil moisture,” said Gowan USA Marketing Director Eric McEwen. Gowan’s potato portfolio includes the Badge brand, which is copper-based. “We’re trying to manage the longevity of these products so we don’t get resistance. By throwing Badge in there, it tends to sharpen your fungicide program a little bit so it adds some nice extra protection.” While many companies focus on seed traits, McEwen says Gowan USA focuses on niche markets. Much of that energy is on the major crops outside of the row crops, including potatoes, dry beans and sugarbeets. Gowan USA is a sponsor of the Red River Farm Network coverage of this week’s Potato Expo.
