The Sugar Association is pleased USDA sided with “strong scientific evidence” when developing the new Dietary Guidelines for the next five years. In a statement provided to the Red River Farm Network, President and CEO Courtney Gaine praised the decision to maintain the current recommendation of ten percent of calories from added sugars. When establishing future added sugars intake recommendations, the Association believes it is time to update the 18-year-old Dietary Reference Intakes for carbohydrates.
