Former Midwest Dairy CEO Mike Kruger has been awarded the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board’s Richard E. Lyng Award for his service to dairy promotion. In 1993, Kruger brought together the dairy checkoff organizations in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota to form the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council of the Upper Midwest. That led to the consolidation of dairy checkoff boards to include Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Kruger also helped form the Minnesota Dairy Leader’s Roundtable. This award is named for former Agriculture Secretary Richard Lyng.
