The North Dakota Farmers Union met virtually on Friday to discuss policy and set resolutions. Government Relations Director Matt Perdue said the core policies stayed the same as 2020, but NDFU adopted six resolutions. “The first resolution focuses on strengthening biofuels markets, the second on climate change, strengthening the farm safety net, improving food security, restoring competition to the livestock industry and the sixth sets our priorities for the upcoming North Dakota legislative session.” North Dakota Senator John Hoeven and former North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp addressed members. Heitkamp was said to be considered for agriculture secretary. “She did address that explicitly,” said Perdue. “Everyone who knows Heitkamp knows she has a way of landing on her feet, whether it means a post in the administration down the road or through other means she’ll be a leader in national conversations. Heitkamp will be a good voice for North Dakota.”
