Congress has until Friday to pass an omnibus spending bill. A stopgap spending bill that keeps the government funded through December 18 was signed by President Trump on Friday night. A coronavirus economic stimulus package is expected to be tied to the spending package. The $900 billion assistance bill may be split up into two parts. One provision would include money for less controversial items, like schools and hospitals. The other provision deals with aid for state and local governments. Agricultural assistance is still part of the discussion. By splitting the bill, it is more likely Congress will pass a COVID relief package before they leave for the Christmas holiday.
