Northland Farm Business Management instructor Betsy Jensen says it can be particularly hard to sell in a down market. “That’s what makes me nervous about soybean growers right now that are still holding beans, when are you going to sell?” asks Jensen. “If $11 isn’t enough, what is enough? If the market goes lower, it is a difficult time to sell.” During a Prairie Grains breakout session, Jensen said keeping grain in commercial storage indefinitely is another marketing pitfall. “There are crops that actually celebrate birthdays in an elevator somewhere and that gets pretty expensive.”
