A unanimous three judge Manitoba Court of Appeal decision will allow the Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board lawsuit against the Canadian government to move forward. The lawsuit calls for the repatriation of $150 million to farmers who marketed wheat and barley through the Canadian Wheat Board in 2010-11 and 2011-12. The legal action also calls for $10 million in punitive damages. The lawsuit argues the Canadian government did not have the right to transfer $150 million in cash assets away from Canada’s farmers and direct it towards the payment of restructuring costs, the government of Saudi Arabia, and Bunge International, which co-owned G3 Limited.
