Georgia Congressman David Scott will be the first African American to chair the House Agriculture Committee. Scott says his priorities will range from trade to crop insurance and from nutrition programs to broadband. Scott has been in Congress for 18 years and has served on the agriculture committee the entire time. In a statement, Scott said he will use the opportunity to represent values of the entire caucus. “The fault lines dividing our rural and urban communities are running deep and climate change is now threatening our nation’s food supply. As chairman, I’ll lead the fight to rise up and meet these challenges.”
