American Crystal Sugar Company Director of Government Affairs Kevin Price says the sugarbeet industry will miss having House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson in Congress, but the co-op looks forward to working with the new agriculture leadership. “David Scott from Georgia will become the House Agriculture Committee Chairman and Glenn “G.T.” Thompson from Pennsylvania will become the ranking member replacing Mike Conaway from Texas. The loss of Peterson and Conaway is a huge change to the committee. Both are deeply knowledgeable and committed to farmers, farm policy and stakeholders. It will be hard to fill the shoes in the House Ag Committee and the same in the Senate Ag Committee with Pat Roberts.” Price says the sugar industry will be focused on education in the new Congress. Building relationships in-person on the Hill is tricky to do in COVID. “It is harder and we’ll have to be creative in building new relationships.”
